Pretty much everyone is familiar with the word Pilates nowadays, and we know that it is something that is supposed to be good for us, but what exactly is it?!
Pilates is an exercise system developed by Joseph Pilates that focuses on developing core strength, resulting in stronger abdominal, pelvic floor and back muscles. However, there’s much more to it.
Pilates movements focus on the entire body. It is excellent for tightening weak pelvic floor muscles, particularly following childbirth, surgery, or long periods of inactivity.
In a class or one-to-one session, we look at posture and alignment, identifying and learning how to activate the deep seated abdominal, pelvic floor and back muscles. This includes practical steps to help with movement, pain management, and the release of tension in mind and body. Each person is encouraged to work at their own pace and within their own limitations, and the session always concludes with a relaxation exercise.
I am a highly experienced Pilates Instructor, trained under Michael King at The Pilates Institute in London, and I have taught group and one-one-one sessions for over fifteen years.
